A Letter to my Mom

Thursday, August 8, 2013

Sorry for such a sad post today, if you skip it over, I won't blame you!

572 days ago today the world lost an angel. It is hard to believe that it has been that long since I saw my mom, spoke to her, held her hand.

Today would have been her 64th birthday.

I have decided to take this time to write and share a letter to my mom.

Mom,

You were always more than a mother to me; you were my best friend. Not a day went by that we didn't speak on the phone or see each other. I shared everything with you and I am so thankful for the relationship we had, I wish I told you more often how much you truly meant to me.

Today is your birthday, and if you were still here with us, I'm sure we would be out at the house having a BBQ or taking you out for supper. You never wanted anyone to spend any money on you, always putting everyone else above yourself, but your birthday was one day that we would finally get you to give in and allow us to spoil YOU!

I know you are still with me, but it's just not the same. I miss you everyday, and every special occasion makes it harder. I just hope that you are at peace, enjoying yourself and having a party today, of all days! You certainly deserve it for everything you have done for all of us.

Love you always,
Your Daughter

  1. What a beautiful letter - brought me to tears. I lost my mom four and a half years ago, and I miss her every day.

    1. Thank you! Everyone I know who has lost a parent has told me that it doesn't really get any better with time, and I know the feelings of loss will never go away.

I am sorry you've lost your mom as well.

  2. You have no worries, your Mom knew exactly how much she meant to you. Just the words of your post leave no mystery to how much your sweet Mother meant to you. I count myself lucky to still have my Mom among the living. Reading your post makes me realize I cannot for one second take for granted how long she will still be with us. I need to be more pro-active in making it right for her and my Dad. I try not to take them for granted, but I am so used to their being right there when I need them, it's almost telepathic. THANK YOU for reminding me of how precious and short life really is.

    1. Definitely true, and I live by that now - you can't take anything for granted, especially time. I always try to live in the moment now and always remember to tell people I love them, give them a hug, etc. Nothing makes you see that more.. if it wasn't for my husband (fiance at the time) there is no way that I could have made it through those 10 months - first my mom suddenly and then my dad passing 10 months later in a very similar way!

I am so thankful for your comment!

    1. Thank you! I do feel like she is watching over our entire family, and she will definitely always be with me. It might bum some people out, but some nights I enjoy sitting around and sharing memories with other family members.. in a way, that keeps her alive too.

I am doing better now, it was a tough week -- but relaxation is the only thing on my mind this weekend! Hope you have a great weekend too - and I am off to check out Sexy Saturday!

    3. Oh I will definitely stop by more often! I usually end up trying to catch up on all my blogs on the weekends, though, so I miss so much! :)

      Definitely yummy!

And I get that a lot, haha, it doesn't help that I have long blonde hair, too. You wouldn't believe the people that find out my name and ask me if she is my sister.. I usually respond with, "Why yes, my parents loved the name Tara so much they called two of us that!" and laugh! But, it's nice to have a semi-famous namesake, in a way.
